How to Get Here:
By air
Faro is the airport for the Algarve, served directly by many airlines
with charter and scheduled flights. Flying time from England is about
2 hours 45 minutes, for example. To check out the actual time table of
flights to and from Faro, look up Faro
airport´s web site. Several regular flights stop over or end
in Lisbon, which may require changing at Lisbon airport. Alternatively
one can start out from Lisbon or from the airport at Seville in Spain.
From these airports to Tavira, transfer depends on taste and costs: by
rental car, taxi, bus or train. Tavira is 30 kilometers from Faro, 300
km from Lisbon and 175 km from Seville. From Lisbon and Seville, long-distance
busses serve the Algarve daily. They are comfortable and quicker than
the train.
If you are arriving at Faro, we can arrange for a taxi whose driver will
await your arrival. For the ride from Faro airport to Tavira one has to
count 30 Euro by day and 35 Euro by night.
Should you wish to be mobile for the length of your stay, we can easily
book a rental car, available on arrival or whenever you need it. The small
agency, with which we have long and successfully worked, was started in
1960 and was the first rental car company in the Algarve. Prices and conditions
are often a bit more favourable than those offered by the big companies.
Simply compare! We can send you a quote on the prices without obligation.
Please use our e-form:

Please note: to rent a car, you must be at least 21
years old and have to have had a driving license for 2 years. You will
need to show ID, passport or identity card. These rules also count if
you book a rental car from home.
With bus and train
Several European towns are connected by direct bus services to the Algarve.
Please consult your local travel agency to know more about time schedules
and prices, as this is not the easiest way to tour Europe. But if you
arrive at Lisbon airport, then travelling on by express bus may be a good
idea. Coach travelling throughout Portugal is common and mostly preferred
to travelling by train. Online one can look up destinations, prices and
conditions of RedEx
, the national "Rede Expressos".
Railway services from Northern Europe to the Algarve usually take a long
time and require detailed knowledge about time schedules in different
countries. For those who enjoy trips by train, we recommend two helpful
web sites: "Rail Europe"
for travelling down to Portugal and "CP
Portuguese Railways" for trips within Portugal. In terms of Algarvian
railways, a coastal line connects Lagos and Vila Real de S. Antonio, in
the Eastern Algarve calling at Faro, Olhão, Tavira, Cacela and
Castro Marim, amongst others. Tunes is the main junction connecting with
the Lisbon line.
By car
Those with time to travel, and wish to see something on the way, will
undoubtedly drive themselves down to the Algarve. To stay down here it
can be financially more advantageous to bring one´s own car than
to rent one - even if car ferries may be expensive (see
ferry planner). Rule of thumb: For 5 weeks or more, and at least 2
persons, bring your own car rather than hire one.
If you do not wish to rely on your own road atlas, the automobile clubs
will provide detailed route planning and more useful information for driving
in Europe. Online you can look up route planners at the following sites:
Michelin , Map24
and TheAA
.
Before you start out, make sure that your insurance is valid throughout
the E.U., do not forget that some motorways charge fees and above all,
take frequent rests on long car journeys!
